Outdoor lighting covers more than one job "Outdoor lighting" means different things to different people. For some it is the roof edge, for others the yard, and for plenty of people it is the dark part of the property they never fixed. They are different problems, and they get solved differently. Lighting the house On the building, a permanent LED system traces the roof edge and the gables, stays up all year, and changes color from an app. That covers holiday color in Decem

The floodlight instinct The standard response to feeling exposed at night is one very bright fixture on a bracket. It feels like the right answer. It mostly is not. One bright light produces hard edges, and anything outside the beam is now less visible than it was before you installed it.Taken together, it points somewhere other than brightness. It is more fixtures at lower output, placed thoughtfully, aimed at the places that need it. It costs about what people were going

Ask whether the design is yours The first question is simple: is there a plan drawn for my house? If somebody can walk you through why each run is where it is, you are talking to the

Why LED and nothing else Anything mounted permanently on a roof edge has to survive being there. That rules out the bulbs that go in a tub in January. LEDs generate almost no heat and have nothing fragile inside, which is the whole reason a permanent system is possible. You do not have to follow the technical side to make a good decision. But it is worth asking what the channel is, how it mounts and how it is wired, because the answer tells you how carefully somebody works.
